Past, Present, or Future?

My wonderful Ya Da's and I have been reading The Shack this summer. Last night we discussed a question brought up in the book...where do you spend most of your time in your mind, in your imagination: in the present, in the past, or in the future? God intends us to live in the present, however we tend to spend very little time there.

For me, I would say I draw much of my happiness from the past. Through all the great memories that have been made along the way and all the wonderful people I have been blessed by knowing. Not there is no happiness in the present, I just tend not to live in the present so maybe I am not experiencing life as fully as I could if I spent a little more time in the present.

Spending time in the future is not so good for me. I tend to be a worrier and so I ponder the future and spend too much time in fear. I need to trust in God more and remember that there is a plan (one that I do not control - thankfully). I wonder if I am sabotaging the present when I spend time worrying about the future? And not only that, it's not all negative when I am in the future. I also tend to look forward to things that are yet to be...a visit from family, a holiday, time with friends. Sometimes the things I look forward to are so far away that I don't really live to my full potential in the present because I'm so hung up with getting to the "good stuff", possibly missing good stuff right where I am at?

This, I thought, was a very good discussion topic. As for me, I am going to work on living more in the present than I currently do. I am sure this will be difficult because I don't really like were life has me right now...is that my own doing because I'm not really living in the now?? And I have some up coming visits that I am REALLY looking forward to...my mom and aunt next week and then my mother and father-in-law along with my two nephews that I have not seen since leaving Michigan in a couple more weeks. I will definitely work on living in the present while they are here (to be sure I have great stuff to remember when I'm spending time in the past later on, he he)

Out of Order

Well I made several posts this morning trying to catch this thing up. You may want to scroll down to Hello Here I am... and then go up from there to read in order. But hey, your all adults...do what ya want.

Spring 2009

Spring was basically uneventful. I was still working the 2 jobs until mid April when the 13-17 day stretches without a day off were really starting to get to me. Ron was plugging away at work and continuing to get new projects in his department (keeping the threat of layoffs for his department at bay) Becky finished up her 1st semester at BSU and began her nanny job full time for the summer. She is really missing her NMU friends though. Zach wrapped up his indoor soccer season and started an outdoor spring league. Jake has mostly recovered from his broken leg, just still can't fully bend at the ankle causing running to be difficult and stopping his thoughts of returning to soccer. He did keep busy this spring at the bike park, so busy he let his studies slide...with promises of a better year next year...yeah, yeah, yeah...blah, blah, blah...we'll see about that.

We did get some bad news from Michigan this spring. Cancer is having it's way in the Schrieber family. Grandma Schrieber was diagnoses with lung cancer after a bout in the hospital they first thought was pnemonia. Shortly thereafter, Ron's Dad was diagnosed with prostate cancer. He has a good prognosis and we continue to pray God will see him through this and bless us with many more years...he still has a lot to teach these grandsons, a lot more fish to be caught, and many more memories to be made.

Need to update my pictures

I was just looking at the pictures I have on here and noticed how much the boys have changed this past year...I will try to get some new photos of them. They are not very cooperative in that department, usually they see the camera and think it is time to make faces (hmmm, Something they learned from Nana???) or start beating on each other, ya know, typical teenage boys

Feb. 2009

February was an AWESOME month. We had an indescribably wonderful time in Arizona with the whole Hunt gang. The fact that every single one of us could be there was truly a blessing!! Praise God! We were the first to show up and Dad was definitely surprised, and actually mom was also surprised because we were about 5 hours earlier than I thought we would be. After a stressful day of airline snafus, we were all present and accounted for by bedtime (not my usual bedtime mind you, but I wasn't gonna miss a second with any of them) Dad continued to be surprised with each new arrival.

We did nothing but just BE together, doing what we Hunt's do best...being silly, having strange competitions, making fun of each other, laughing, loving, cooking, eating, laughing, loving, laughing, smiling.....INDESCRIBABLY AWESOME!!!!!!!! Dad was able to be up most of our time there and had the biggest smile glued in place the whole time we were there!

So we made some memories and were all very happy that we were able to pull this off. We packed our bags and headed back to reality. Dad really overdid his time up in his chair, cause a week or so later he ended up going for an ambulance ride back to the hospital with a terrible infection and in need of further surgery. Once again, all feeling very blessed for this time we were able to spend together, Dad had his surgery and spent some time back in the nursing home recovering. He has gotten back home now and is doing well. God is Good!!

Hello, here I am again

WOW!!! Has it really been that long? So much for getting "back to blogging". I guess I have been totally sucked in to facebook and reconnecting with old high school friends and acquaintances. Do you have a facebook?...then you know what I mean. If you don't...try it, it is fun to be in touch with people from the past. However, it is easy to get sucked in and spend entirely too much time on the computer. I don't really want to say it is a waste of time, however, I spend time I don't really have on it...this is my proplem. OK, well that is my lame excuse. I will make an effort to get back on here and catch this blog up to date.

Back to Blogging

Oh how I have neglected my poor little blog! So sorry dear friends and family. I guess I was pretty down about the holidays and the fact I would not be able to be with any of my family or Ron's and that it would be my first Christmas without Becky at all. YUCK!!! But now that I have survived all that I will catch you up to date and TRY to be better about blogging.

Mid-November I decided to get a seasonal retail job at the mall to help keep my mind off the facts I stated above. To my surprise I really enjoyed this little job and have decided to keep it for awhile. I am working at a women's clothing store at the mall. . .it is really a lot of fun. (This is in addition to my regular dental job Monday - Wednesdays.)

Jake broke into the New Year (literally) by breaking his leg on New Years Day. Just a simple bike ride home from a friends and he could not resist the temptation to do a wheelie (no a "manual" - I'm informed this is a wheelie without pedaling??) lost control and SNAP. He had what they called surgery a week later - basically they just put him under general anesthesia to reset the bone and get better alignment. He just got permission yesterday to use a walking boot with light toe pressure for a week and then gradually add more pressure/weight. We are hoping that he will get a removable walking boot prior to our departure to Arizona on Feb 10.

Becky has joined us out here in Idaho. She and her Dad drove her car out here together and he really enjoyed having her undivided attention for 3 days in the car. We survived a few days of having Becky's Dad stay with us...I know sounds really crazy, but it really wasn't bad. Becky is really enjoying her classes at BSU and says she likes the campus better than NMU. She does however, miss her awesome friends VERY MUCH!! I am praying for new friendships and maybe some visits from old friends for her.

Zach has completed his driver's training and now has his driver's permit. He is actual a pretty good driver so far. It is really bugging him that he is 16 and doesn't have his license yet, but what are you gonna do. He is hoping to get in some good driving time on our trip to Arizona.

Ron has survived a round of layoffs within his company and been getting some kudos from management on some recent work he has done. He is anxious to get his Goldwing back on the road.

We are all looking forward to a little trip to Arizona to see my folks in February. Actually, all of my family -I mean everyone- will be going to surprise my Dad for his 70th birthday. My mom is SO excited but she is not telling him until the first of us pulls in the driveway. This is going to be SO AWESOME!!! We have not all been together since Mom and Dad moved in August of '06.

Okay, well that is about it. I just got called in to see a couple of emergency patients, so I will catch you all later.
